The team at SYMTP would like to share with you a new program that Monsoon Youth* is starting called Monsoon Lab. Monsoon Lab is an open space for youth to explore new projects together with an emphasis on student interest and personal development.  Leslie Kim is premiering Monsoon Lab this winter with an experimental class for youth that will focus on creativity and connectedness called Art Collab @ Monsoon Lab. 

 

Art Collab @ Monsoon Lab is inviting students, grades 6 to 12, to create self-selected teams that will propose and complete an art collaboration project by the end of the class, which will be showcased to the community. The goals of the class are to foster connections and inspire creativity among students through engaging the artistic process.

 

The students will attend an online group class weekly in which principles of creativity and communication as well as skills of project development and problem solving will be discussed. Each team will have a separate one-on-one session with me (and possibly another college mentor) to receive support on their specific project.

 

Here are some examples of art collab projects, but please understand that this list is not exhaustive or prescriptive in any way:

   • Short film

- Independent one-act play/film

- Modern re-telling of old tale

- Spoofs or spin-offs

   • Design for a performance (movie, TV, play, concert)

- Costuming

- Set design

- Hair and Make up

   • Photography that tells a story

   • Story and illustration

   • Devised theatre

   • Poetry

- Spoken word recorded or live performance

- Filmed poetry reciting in special setting

- Printed with illustrations

   • Mural art

   • Collage art

HIGH SCHOOL - Grades 9-12

Jan. 26 - March 23 - Tuesday: 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. (no class on 3/9)
